Faiz's poem "A Morning in Prison" in The Mirror of Colonial Psychology and Structuralism

Faiz Ahmad Faiz remained renowned and most eminent poet of Urdu due to his peculiar dialect and thoughts. His poetry is manifestation of motivation, hope and love. In this paper, the writer explores the profound imagery and symbolism of Faiz Ahmed Faiz's poem " A Morning in Prison" The analysis sheds light on the Colonial Psychology and Structuralism of this poem and explains how the poem captures the emotional landscape of imprisonment, blending despair with flickering defiance and unwavering hope. Through specific examples of the text's symbolic elements, the paper argues that Faiz transforms the prison cell into a crucible of resilience, where darkness cannot extinguish the human spirit's yearning for freedom. By tracing the interplay of memory, longing, and dream, the analysis ultimately reveals the poem as a powerful testament to the enduring power of hope even in the face of oppression.
