This research examines the divergent scholarly approaches to the application of riba in relation to modern banking interest. Islamic scholars have articulated varying positions on the permissibility or prohibition of banking interest, grounded in their respective interpretative methodologies of the Qur’ānic injunctions and Prophetic traditions. This study seeks to critically evaluate these differing opinions in order to determine which interpretations align with the true spirit and foundational principles of Islamic jurisprudence, and which depart from them. Employing exploratory and explanatory research methods, the study analyzes authoritative and authentic writings of prominent modern scholars to elucidate the underlying arguments and evidences. The findings aim to clarify the actual juridical status of banking interest in Islam and to contribute meaningfully to scholarly discourse, as well as to inform the development of a genuinely riba-free economic and banking system.
