Ignác Goldziher (June 22, 1850 – November 13, 1921) was a prominent Jewish Orientalist who researched Islamic studies, and his book "Muslim Studies" (German: "Muhammedanische Studien") is considered an important critical study of Islamic studies.¹ The book was originally written in German and later translated into English. This article will review the first volume of Goldziher's book Muslim Studies. Goldziher gained worldwide fame for his in-depth research in Oriental studies, especially Islamic studies. He was considered one of the leading Islamic scholars of his time. He was fluent in Arabic, Persian, Hebrew, Turkish, and other Oriental languages. He researched Islamic law, hadith, exegesis, theology, Sufism, and Islamic history, and gave a new dimension to the academic study of Islamic studies in the Western world.
