Abstract

This study offers an analytical overview of Hujjat Allah al-Baligha, the monumental work of Shah Wali Allah Dehlavi, a distinguished Islamic scholar, philosopher, and reformer of the 18th century. Renowned for his intellectual depth and mastery of classical Islamic sciences, Shah Wali Allah combined diverse philosophical and spiritual traditions in his writings. The introduction highlights his scholarly background, lineage, early education, spiritual training, academic achievements, and extensive travels to the Hijaz, where he studied Hadith with prominent scholars. The abstract also underscores the thematic essence of Hujjat Allah al-Baligha, a unique and comprehensive work exploring the wisdom (ḥikmah), objectives (maqāṣid), and underlying reasons behind Islamic legal rulings. The book’s literary style, methodological rigor, and interdisciplinary nature—integrating Hadith, Fiqh, ethics, Sufism, and philosophy—have made it a timeless reference. Moreover, its numerous translations, commentaries, and scholarly studies reflect its enduring influence on Islamic scholarship.
