This article presents an analytical study of the life, intellectual activities, and religious and political views of Dr. Ali Shariati. Ali Shariati (1933–1977) was a prominent Islamic thinker in Iran whose intellectual formation was influenced by his family’s religious background, the academic environment of Mashhad, his exposure to Western philosophy, and the writings of revolutionary thinkers such as Franz Fanon. His early education in Mashhad and his observation of social inequalities fostered a tendency toward social justice in his thought, while his association with the liberation movements during his stay in Paris solidified his revolutionary ideology. After his return to Iran, his lectures at the Hosseiniya Irshad created intellectual awareness among the younger generation, and his opposition to the state made him a symbol of intellectual resistance. Shariati’s religious and political views are based on the centrality of monotheism to the intellectual, social, and moral organization of the individual and society.
